Third Spaniard among victims of Friday’s attacks in Paris

Spain’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday confirmed that a third Spaniard was killed in last Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris.

The man was named Manuel Pérez Paredes, he was aged 40, and he had dual French-Spanish citizenship.

French authorities were initially unable to confirm if the victim had dual nationality, meaning that Pérez Paredes couldn’t be identified as a Spaniard when the death toll from the attacks was taken.

The Spanish government was able to determine that the victim had been registered at the Spanish Consul in Paris. But it also said that it had not received any alert from the victim’s family in the wake of the attacks.

On Saturday, officials confirmed the death of two Spaniards: Juan Alberto González Garrido, 29, of Madrid, and Michelli Gil Jaimez, who had dual Mexican-Spanish nationality.

Two other Spaniards, María Luisa Rodríguez, 33, and Iván García, were among the survivors of the attack at the Bataclan music venue. Police rescued both of them after they took cover with about another 20 people inside a dark room when the terrorists began shooting, according to Estepa City Hall.

Rodríguez is from Seville and García is from Madrid.
